Fire Island National Seashore is now accepting applications for the 2018 Artist-in-Residence program, which allows up to four artists to live at Watch Hill for two weeks and create art.
The applications for the two-week residence program are due by Feb. 16, and artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Click here for application for more information.

According to the National Park Service, the program offers participating artists focused time to creatively explore Fire Island National Seashore’s natural and cultural features.
Fire Island’s “dynamic landscapes, beach communities, and maritime heritage provide compelling subjects for the artist,” said FINS’ chief of interpretation and education, Kathy Krause.
Up to four residencies will be awarded through a juried application process based on artistic merit and project proposal, according to the NPS announcement.
Artists must provide and transport groceries and personal amenities.
Participating artists also contribute to the park’s public outreach efforts by conducting presentations, workshops, and showcasing their work in an exhibit. Seventeen artists from disciplines including visual art, sound art, literary art, and mixed media have participated in the Seashore’s program since its 2013 launch, according to the National Park Service.
The residence dates for 2018:
May 26 – June 9
June 10 – June 24
September 1 – September 15
September 16 – September 30
