Health department closes Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore over bacteria levels

Bay Shore’s Benjamin Beach has been temporarily closed to bathing due to higher than acceptable bacteria levels, according to the county health department.

Tanner Park Beach in Babylon and Lake Ronkonkoma in Islip Town also remain closed as of Monday.

Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels, reads an announcement issued Monday afternoon.
