Southside Hospital opens two new cardiology labs in Bay Shore

|

Southside Hospital has announced the launch of both a new cardiac catheterization lab and an electrophysiology lab at its campus in Bay Shore.

The idea is to provide Suffolk residents with more opportunities for minimally invasive cardiac procedures, the announcement reads.

“As a result of the new catheterization and new electrophysiology labs, cardiologists can now handle more complex cases and patients will have a shorter wait time for these procedures,” said Donna Moravick, the hospital’s executive director.

“This furthers our commitment to provide Suffolk County residents with world-class heart care right in their backyard.”

With the addition of these two advanced diagnostic suites, cardiologists can treat blockages and identify and treat heart rhythm abnormalities utilizing state-of-the-art Siemens imaging equipment, according to the hospital.

The technology cuts down on a patient’s radiation exposure by a third of previous iterations while producing images that are significantly clearer, said Dr. Puneet Gandotra, MD, the cardiac department’s vice chairman.

The labs also have an operating room-like environment which can allow for a higher level of care because the equipment is already integrated into the room.

The new additions give Southside three cardiac catheterization labs and two electrophysiology suites.

These types of procedures have been happening in Bay Shore for more than a decade.
