It’s only been open for a little more than a year.
Yet Slice of Bay Shore took 1st Place in our readers’ poll asking for the best pizzerias in the Greater Bay Shore coverage area, from West Islip to East Islip.
There’s a bit more to the story than that, however.
The story starts and ends with the beloved Giovanni “John” Digirolamo, who’s actually been slinging pizza in the area for two decades — and always with a smile.
He and his wife, Alexis, finally decided to go into business for themselves in 2017.
As for the pizza itself, several of those polled like the gyro slice and the extra cheese.
Favorite non-pizza items include chicken saltimbocca and Italian churros.
