They are down to the Elite Eight.
After receiving more than 80,000 submissions from fans for the New York Islanders’ fan-driven third jersey design contest, the team has cut the field to just eight finalists — and now it’s up to you to decide which one wins.
Voting starts at noon Wednesday, Aug. 12, with the eight designs facing off in four first-round matchups: Lighthouse vs. Lighthouse, Fisherman vs. Fisherman, NY vs. NY and ISLES vs. ISLANDERS.
“The orange fisherman or the blue NY are my two favorites,” Isles season ticket holder Danielle Ruege from Northport said. “The orange NY jersey would be cool, but there’s no white on it, so it just doesn’t pop enough.”
First round voting runs through Friday at 5 p.m., when the field will be cut in half.
The second round will take place Aug. 15-17, followed by the championship round Aug. 18-20, when fans will choose the winning design.
The winning jersey will become the Islanders’ third jersey beginning with the 2027-28 season.
The contest drew 80,490 submissions after the Islanders invited fans to create their own designs earlier this year.
As GLI reported last month, ideas included Islanders logos tucked inside anchors and a shark taking a bite out of the Fisherman.
“Islanders fans have once again blown us away with their incredible creativity and the sheer volume of participation,” said Kelly Cheeseman, President of Business Operations for the Islanders and UBS Arena, in a statement.
The team said it is the first fan-driven third jersey design contest in NHL history. A committee made up of Islanders players and members of the team’s Hockey Operations department selected the eight finalists from the submissions.
