The retailers in downtown Port Jefferson are looking for people to roll the dice with them this fall and play some Port-Opoly!
One grand prize winner is going to pass go, proverbially speaking, and collect over $300 in gift cards and merchandise.
“We’re just trying to get people shopping local and exploring the village and maybe finding out about other shops that maybe they didn’t know about,” said Steve Muñoz of The Amazing Olive.
The game will run from Oct. 14 through Nov. 15. The winner will be drawn Nov. 30.
Here’s how it works. Shoppers can pick up their Port-Opoly game boards at any of the 24 participating locations (which appear below in the mock game board).
From there, they get to go shopping! The more stores that are visited, the more stamps, hole punches or special markings they will get on the back of their game boards.
The winner will be drawn from among the cards with the most stamps.
Not only that, for some side action, some shops are offering Chance cards for people to win in-house raffle prizes.
The contest is run by the new Port Jefferson Retailer Association. Be sure to use the hashtag #portopoly in your social media posts.
“We’re a good town. We have energy here. So come on down and join us,” said Sue Hoeffner of Sea Creations, which has been in the village for 41 years.
“There’s so many other things than what you might find in the major malls,” she said.
