Police seek man in Ridge bank scam targeting 79-year-old woman

Suffolk Police want the public’s help in identifying a man who showed up at a 79-year-old Ridge woman’s home and walked off with her debit card as part of a bank impersonation scam.

The woman got a call Aug. 19 from someone claiming to be from TD Bank, police said. The caller told her there was fraudulent activity on her account and instructed her to turn her debit card over to a man who would come to her home.

A man then came to her home in a black Nissan Maxima, police said. He told her he would track down the fraud and that she would be issued a new debit card.

The next day, about $4,200 was withdrawn from her account at an ATM in Shirley, police said. That prompted the woman to call police.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk Police Financial Crimes Unit detectives released surveillance images of the man on Friday.
