Motorcyclist seriously hurt in West Babylon wreck

A Deer Park motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday afternoon when he was struck by a car while making a left turn onto Platt Avenue in West Babylon, police said.

Stephen Downs, 25, is being treated at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The woman driving the car, 60-year-old Rosemay Clairant of North Amityville, whose injuires were described by authorities as non-life-threatening, also went to Good Samaritan.

Cops said Clairant was driving north on Little East Neck Road about 3:50 p.m. when she tried to turn her 2011 Toyota left onto Platt Avenue. The Toyota struck Downs as he headed south on his 2009 Harley Davidson.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check following the crash.
