Ominous skies and a looming nor’easter. No problem.
Smithtown East still celebrated its homecoming without a hitch Friday night – in spite of the football team’s loss to Huntington.
The celebration marked the first homecoming game ever played under the lights at Schroeder Field.
The night kicked off before the game with a carnival in the high school gym, attended by children of all ages and parents. Smithtown High School East’s co-curricular clubs hosted the event, with students organizing and running the games, activities and stations themselves.
As kickoff neared, the crowd moved outside to Schroeder Field, where the Bulls hosted Huntington.
Right on cue, a rainbow arched across the sky beyond the field – a sight much of Long Island caught that night.
Students, families, alumni and neighbors packed the stands, giving the Friday night game an electric feel.
At halftime, the Whisperettes kickline team took the field. Then came the moment many had been waiting for – the crowning of the 2026 homecoming royalty.
Isabella Weidtman was named homecoming queen. Anthony Gazzano was crowned homecoming king.
Huntington won the game, 40-7.
