Suffolk’s law enforcement community is mourning one of its own.
Alexandra “Ali” DeLeonardo Infante, a Suffolk Police detective from Ronkonkoma, died suddenly on Monday. She was 38.
Family, friends and fellow officers will gather in Ronkonkoma this weekend to say goodbye, according to arrangements posted by Moloney’s Lake Funeral Home. Her wake and a police service are set for Sunday, and her funeral Mass is Monday.
DeLeonardo Infante served with Suffolk Police for nine years. A 2007 graduate Colegio Sagrados Corazones, a Catholic high school in Puerto Rico, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at the now-closed Dowling College in Oakdale. She was born Sept. 13, 1988.
“Our community has lost a true guardian, protector and a beautiful soul,” George Michels, president of the Suffolk County Detectives Association, said this week in a message to members.
Michels said DeLeonardo Infante’s family, friends and colleagues told him she was so much “more than just the badge she wore.”
“She was a kind listener and a dedicated protector,” he wrote. “She answered the call to serve every single day with grace and courage.”
Michels said her colleagues are struggling to make sense of her death.
“While we all struggle to reconcile what has happened … we grieve a loss that words cannot fully express,” he wrote. “But nevertheless, we still honor the light she brought into so many lives.
“Rest in peace, Detective DeLeonardo, your watch is over, and your service will not be forgotten,” he added.
He asked members to keep her family, friends and colleagues in their prayers, and closed with a plea to anyone who is struggling.
“Always remember reaching out for help, whether it’s your minister, counselor, therapist, peer team member, family or trusted friend when the load is too heavy, isn’t a weakness,” Michels wrote.
