A former maintenance worker at a now-shuttered Holbrook motel recruited women to work as prostitutes, police said Tuesday.
Detectives from Suffolk Police’s Human Trafficking Investigations Unit believe James Seccadanari, 49, of Brentwood, recruited at least three women for commercial sex work while he was employed at the Mac Arthur Inn on Veterans Memorial Highway, police said. Authorities said there are likely more victims.
Seccadanari was arrested at a residence on Calebs Path in Brentwood at about 9:35 p.m. Oct. 19 and charged with third-degree promoting prostitution.
Police said the investigation began with a tip that surfaced during a Highway Patrol arrest last fall.
The Mac Arthur Inn, at 4444 Veterans Memorial Highway, was closed earlier this year as part of a Town of Islip investigation into various code violations.
Seccadanari was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip.
