A home health aide hired to care for an 89-year-old Selden woman stole about $1,200 worth of her jewelry, police said.
Cops arrested Devika Ramcharran, 37, of North Bellport Thursday night about 11:10 p.m. She is expected to be arraigned later this month on a fourth-degree grand larceny charge.
Police said Ramcharran worked for Senior Helpers of Smithtown, a home care agency on Manor Road in Smithtown. The agency had assigned her to the elderly woman’s home on Oakdale Avenue in Selden.
According to police, Ramcharran stole the jewelry on Sept. 28 and the woman called police after noticing it missing.
Ramcharran was given a desk appearance ticket. She is due to be arraigned later this month at First District Court in Central Islip.
Detectives are asking anyone who believes Ramcharran may have stolen from them to call the Sixth Squad at 631.854.8622.
