Support provided by Northwell’s Mather Hospital, which delivers the five-star difference in exceptional care and is ranked by Medicare in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance and patient experience.
The Suffolk Federal Credit Union gave back in a big way with a $7,500 donation to the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and the restaurant community who are working hard to provide food to the healthcare heroes at Mather and St. Charles hospitals.
This donation will contribute to the ongoing fundraising efforts sponsored by GreaterPortJeff.com and managed by the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.
A short press conference was held on Tuesday morning outside of The Steam Room restaurant to announce the contribution to the cause.
“We’re very happy to be able to donate money through the staff,” said Ralph Spencer, president of SFCU. “We were trying to coordinate this ourselves originally, but we were ecstatic when we found out [the chamber] was doing something, so it worked out very well.”
The online fundraiser to help the local restaurants and frontline hospital workers was already nearing $9,000 as of April 14. The money is being distributed to a growing list of participating restaurants by the chamber of commerce.
The restaurants will use the money to pay for the food and delivery to the local hospitals.
The Steam Room is among those restaurants (full list below).

“We want to say thank you so very much to our very good team of partners,” said Mary Joy Pipe, president of the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and owner of East End Shirt Company. “We are ever so thankful for your participation and community involvement.”
Port Jefferson Village Mayor Margot Garant thanked SFCU for their generosity and contribution to the community effort.
“Members of our community can stay in business and support our local economy and keep Main Street open,” Garant said. “For you folks on the frontlines, thank you for all that you are doing. We take care of this community together.”
