Original story: A sports bar called Bottoms Up! will be opening in Islip where The Plate restaurant recently closed in the middle of Main Street.

After The Plate closed its doors, Islip entrepreneur Lisa Saggio said she jumped at the chance to keep a restaurant next door to her newly opened candy shop, Sugared Up!

The interior of the space is already getting a remake, and there are many more TVs on the way.

Bottoms Up! will also incorporate some local sports memorabilia on the walls.

“We are going to have helmets from Islip and East Islip’s high school football teams,” said Saggio, as well as gear from pro teams.

Bottoms Up! visitors could watch games, or pass the time away playing darts, foosball or trivia, she said.

In a message to the community this week on Facebook, the Islip Chamber of Commerce urged locals to put the short-lived Plate behind them “… and wish a new business coming in to town well. New owners, new management and new staff.” (The full post appears below.)

It wasn’t made clear why The Plate closed.

The menu at Bottoms Up! will include traditional bar food, including burgers, wings, and chicken sandwiches, though the food offerings will be subject to change depending on demand.

Saggio will also be looking to collaborate with Sugared Up! by offering some occasional sweet drinks at the bar on occasion.

Saggio is also opening a handmade cosmetic store down the road, called Lather Up!
