It’s not even a year old, but Bay Shore High School’s instantly popular Esports Club has just made national news, appearing on ESPN.com.
According to the story by ESPN Staff Writer Kieren Darcy, a whopping 127 students showed up to the first information meeting about a possible club this past fall.
To the uninitiated, Esports is another term for competitive video-gaming.
There are tournaments across the globe.
It was at a tourney at the Barclays Center where Ryan Champlin, an 11th grader, got the idea to bring a club to the school and started collecting signatures.
“There were all these kids who didn’t have any club or team they were part of, and they didn’t really want to join anything — and then we created this club, and they got excited,” Ryan told ESPN. Click here to read the whole article.
