Northwell Health on Monday announced the openings of two Fire Island medical clinics for the summer season.
The Northwell Health Immediate Care Center in Ocean Beach opened on May 24 and will be operating through Labor Day. The Cherry Grove location opened temporarily from May 26-27. It will open for the summer season starting on May 31.
A Northwell Health medical professional will be available at each of these locations seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This is Northwell’s seventh summer at Ocean Beach and the sixth year staffing Cherry Grove.
“It has been so rewarding to hear stories of patients who have been cared for – from being patched up after a minor injury to literally lifesaving heart interventions – and knowing that those were made possible because of Northwell Health’s investment in these two immediate care centers along with the advanced medical practitioners who volunteer their services there each summer,” said Edward Fraser, a Northwell Health vice president of community relations and project manager of the Fire Island Immediate Care Centers.
“We appreciate all of the support that has made these clinics possible and are pleased to be there for our patients and community members when they need us,” Fraser said.
If someone requires treatment outside of those hours or a higher level of care, patients can call emergency numbers and police will direct them to the appropriate medical care facility, including Northwell’s Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
Typical ailments treated by Northwelll on Fire Island include, but are not limited to:
- Minor injuries and burns
- Sprains and strains
- Allergic reactions
- Mild asthma
- Rashes and skin irritations, including poison oak, ivy and insect bites
