Long Island’s performing arts theaters have been shut down since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, and up until a few months ago, it was unclear when they could reopen.
But this summer they’re finally making their comeback.
“It’s been a long journey,” said Dylan Perlman, 27, co-owner of Argyle Theatre in Babylon Village. “But we’re finally at the point where we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”
As restrictions continue to be lifted, vaccination rates rise, and Broadway announces its reopening in September, Perlman says they are at last being given a reason to be optimistic.
Argyle Theatre — located at 34 W Main St. — is in the midst of planning its schedule for the rest of 2021 and into 2022.
Perlman says they are still waiting for more detailed guidelines from New York State, but for now are setting up to pick up from where they left off with “Cabaret” in September — the production they were in the middle of when the theater shut down.
The theater also plans to put on “Elf the Musical” during the holiday season.
Before then, Argyle Theatre will be running its eight-week summer intensive program and have a line-up of comedy shows and concerts.
Argyle Theatre will be announcing this line-up for July and August very soon on their website.
“I think everyone is ready to get back to life,” Perlman said.
