Brookhaven Town’s Black History Commission honored 10 William Floyd High School students for their academic achievements during the town’s 30th annual “Black History Month Celebration” this month.
The Colonial recipients were rewarded for their academic excellence — each having achieved a cumulative GPA of 90 or higher. The following students were each featured during the event, held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

- Madison Gray
- Chedey Green
- Patricia Jean Baptiste
- Jada Love
- Matthew Murrell
- Saniyyah Pitner
- Ayanna Robinson
- Danazia Tucker
- Olivia Washington
The theme of this year’s celebration was “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity.” The Commission also recognized its honoree and keynote speaker, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr., who shared inspiring words for the students.
Brookhaven’s Black History Commission celebrates and acknowledges the contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans — nationally and locally — while helping the younger generation develop its appreciation of Black culture and heritage.
