Bellport resident and sports radio personality Gregg Giannotti has been chosen to co-host WFAN’s popular morning show with former NFL quarterback and fellow Long Islander Boomer Esiason.
The station announced that news and its new lineup at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Giannotti is currently co-host of “Gio & Jones” on the national CBS Sports Radio, which doesn’t air in New York.
“Today’s announcement helps solidify WFAN’s rank as the No. 1 sports talk radio station in the U.S. for years to come,” said Marc Rayfield, the senior vice president/market manager for CBS Radio New York. “The mix of distinctive new voices and lineup changes alongside perennial on-air favorites ensures a continuously remarkable listening experience for the passionate New York sports fans we proudly serve.”
Giannotti had sat with Boomer on two week-long occasions this fall.
“I’ve loved WFAN since I was a kid,” the Bellport High School Class of 2000 graduate told us in September.
Prior to the Gio and Jones show, Giannotti co-hosted the morning show on 93.7 FM The Fan in Pittsburgh for five years. He had also made spot appearances on WFAN, the world’s first all-sports 24/7 radio station.
Longtime WFAN listeners would also recognize Giannotti’s voice from when he produced the midday Joe & Evan Show in New York. That was before he left for Pittsburgh in 2010.
He also does spot-on impressions of fellow radio hosts Mike Francesa and Joe Benigno.
Beginning Jan. 2, the new WFAN Sports Radio 101.9 FM and Sports Radio 66 AM weekday lineup will look like this:
1:00 – 5:40 AM — Tony Paige & Marc Malusis
5:40 – 6:00 AM — “The Warmup Show” with Al Dukes & Jerry Recco
6:00 – 10:00 AM — “Boomer & Gio”
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM — “Joe & Evan”
2:00 – 6:30 PM — “The Afternoon Drive with Carlin, Bart and Maggie”
