Each finalist will perform a work composed by J.S. Bach for unaccompanied string instrument, before a panel of judges.

Judges Colin Carr, Eugene Drucker, Robert Mealy, Marilyn McDonald, and Arthur Haas will score them.

The competition was established to honor Long Island residents Lillian and Maurice Barbash each for their lifelong commitment to the arts.

“We are proud and grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Lillian and Maurice Barbash Bach Competition as we look forward to the 2021 Finals on Dec. 1,” said Christina Dahl, Stony Brook’s music department chair.

“After a season of pandemic shutdown, we are thrilled to host live performances by some of the nation’s leading young artists on our stage,” she added. “We thank the Barbash family for establishing a competition that honors their parents, and for championing young interpreters of the great J.S. Bach.”
