Elwood’s Glenn High School honored three standout members of the school’s girls volleyball state championship team and two soccer players for their efforts on the court and field this fall.
Volleyball players Shannon McGrath, Diana Muniz, Shayna Purow, along with fellow seniors Mackenzie Stickelman of girls soccer and Julian Weber from the boys soccer team, each capped off illustrious youth sports careers will All-State honors this fall.
Here’s a breakdown of each student-athlete.
Shannon McGrath — girls volleyball
McGrath was a key member of the state championship team in November. An outside hitter on the varsity girls volleyball team for several years, she earned first-team All-State and first-team All-Long Island honors, along with Suffolk County Elite Eight and Academic All-County recognition. She twice was named Suffolk All-Tournament Team MVP. McGrath will majoring in biomedical engineering and play volleyball at Union College.

Diana Muniz — girls volleyball
Muniz played defense on the varsity girls volleyball team. She recorded a whopping 60 digs in Glenn’s four-set win over Hendrick Hudson in the state final at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls. Muniz earned first-team All-State honors and is a two-time state Defensive Player of the Year. She also made the county and state’s All-Tournament teams and received the New York State Sportsmanship Award.
A member of the high school’s World Language Honor Society, Muniz will graduate from Glenn with summa cum laude designation. This fall, she also earned All-County singer honors, as decided by the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME).
Shayna Purow — girls volleyball
Purow, a setter on the girls volleyball team, received second-team All-State and State Tournament MVP honors this season. She is a two-time All-Conference, three-time All-County and an Academic All-County student-athlete. She recorded 26 assists and 13 digs in the state championship game.
In the classroom, she was part of the Glenn team that won first place overall in the Feinstein Institute of Northwell Health’s Medical Marvels competition. She will graduate from Glenn with summa cum laude designation.
Purow has signed on to play volleyball at Colby College in Maine.

Mackenzie Stickelman — girls soccer
Stickelman, who has earned an athletic scholarship to BostonUniversity, played midfield, defense and forward on the girls soccer team at Glenn. She was the League Player of the Year as a junior, a three-time All-State selection and a four-time All-County pick. She also competes in track and field, where she has earned All-Division and All-League designation.
Stickelman plays in Glenn’s marching band and band honors ensemble, and is a member of the school’s National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, Natural Helpers and Freshman Buddies. She will graduate from Glenn with magna cum laude designation.
Julian Weber — boys soccer
Weber, a goalkeeper on the boys soccer team, received All-State, second-team All-Long Island, All-County, All-League and All-Conference honors. He recorded more than 10 shutouts and was named League Goalkeeper of the Year this fall. He has signed to play with the new semi-pro team Queensboro FC, which will begin playing in the 2023 season of the USL Championship league.

“The Elwood School District is extraordinarily proud of these five student athletes,” Athletic Director Dave Shanahan said. “Their accomplishments in the classroom and on the athletic field have allowed each of these athletes to receive the highest accolades given by their selected sports’ governing bodies.”
