Dozens of students in William Floyd High School’s Medical Club held a fundraiser to support Ukrainians whose lives have been devastated the last six weeks by the Russian invasion.
Under the direction of the club’s adviser, science educator Terri Randall, club members spearheaded an effort to collect medical supplies, including antiseptics, bandages, burn ointment, first aid kits, gauze, ibuprofen and Tylenol.
Randall delivered the donations to the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead, which has been collecting and shipping the supplies to Ukraine. The effort included donations from students and staff, including employees in the high school guidance department and cafeteria.
“It is important for our students – as future health care providers – to understand that when any part of humanity is in need, as professionals and humans we step in and selflessly serve,” Randall said. “It is a gift and an honor to be able to share generosity of spirit and give support.”
