Starting pitchers for William Floyd’s varsity and junior varsity baseball teams tossed no-hitters on the same day this week against Central Islip teams.
The varsity squad’s Justin Backhaus allowed just two walks Monday in the Colonials 16-0 home win over Central Islip. Andrew Winter — an eighth-grader playing for the JV team — fired nine strikeouts, while allowing one walk and one hit by pitch in William Floyd’s 14-0 victory in Central Islip.
The varsity Colonials — 7-9 in League I play and 9-9 overall — have won seven of their last nine games.
William Floyd needs to win its final two games to reach the Suffolk County playoffs. Both games — today on the road and tomorrow at home — are against winless Central Islip (0-17).
The playoffs are set to begin on Tuesday, May 17. William Floyd, with 52 runs in its last five games, hopes its hot hitting and pitching propels them deep into the playoffs.
