A Brentwood man struck and killed a pedestrian crossing Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst before dawn Tuesday and then kept driving, police said.
Cops arrested Daniel Gomez, 65, at his home hours later, charging him with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality, police said.
The victim, Erik Ermanovics, 56, was crossing Sunrise Highway at North Indiana Avenue at 4:25 a.m. when he was hit by Gomez’s 2012 Honda Accord in the westbound lanes, according to authorities.
Ermanovics, who police said was homeless, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
Police did not say how detectives identified Gomez or whether the Honda was recovered.
Gomez is being held overnight at Suffolk Police’s Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1.800.220.TIPS, through the P3 Tips mobile app, or online at P3Tips.com. Tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
