This long-awaited playground is finally on its way to coming to fruition.
Several Village of Rockville Centre elected officials gathered Aug. 17 to break ground on Mr. B’s Inclusive Playground at the Rockville Centre Recreation Center.
Plans for this project began in 2015 and this is the first-ever all-inclusive playground in Rockville Centre.
It also pays tribute to the late Anthony Brunetta — also known as ‘Mr. B.’ — who was the longtime superintendent of the village’s recreation center.
Brunetta was a lifelong Rockville Centre resident sho headed the center for 35 years.
One of his other notable local accomplishments was forming the first-ever RVC Softball League.
The state-of-the-art playground will provide children with all abilities the experience to play, while encouraging acceptance and promoting overall health and wellness at the Recreation Center.
Improvements include new ADA-compliant restrooms, LED lighting, a walking track, exercise stations, a tennis court and basketball court.
Grants from the New York State Dormitory Authority and donations from community groups such as the the Rockville Centre Lions Club, Tommy Brull Foundation Inc., the Rockville Centre Little League, and many more were credited for helping to make the project happen.
