Vincent DiCarlo Sr. of East Islip, founder of DiCarlo Food Service, one of the largest privately owned wholesale food distributors in the United States, passed away on July 31. He was 85.
“He was a legend in our industry,” said his son Michael, also the VP of Sales at DiCarlo Food Service.
Vincent and his brother James DiCarlo were the first of four brothers who helped grow the company from one Polly-O food route in Mastic Beach in 1963 to today’s 10-state operation.
After several expansions in Shirley, DiCarlo Distributors, Inc., as it was called then, moved to its current headquarters in Holtsville in 1986.
DiCarlo Food Service is in the midst of celebrating 60 years in business, and Vincent Sr. was still serving as the company’s chairman at the time of his death.
He was a beloved husband to Yolanda. Devoted father of Lisa (John) Yancigay, Vincent (Cherene) Jr. and Michael (Teresa). Cherished grandfather to John (Lisa), Lauren (Matthew), Vincent (Ashleigh), Michael, Julia, Vincent and Michelina.
And, he a great grandfather of five, with two more on the way.
Vincent DiCarlo was a brother to seven siblings: John DiCarlo, Sr., and the late Dominick DiCarlo, Anna Puglisi, Rose Cucci, James DiCarlo, Constance Testa and Michael DiCarlo.

The wake is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 2, and Thursday, Aug. 3, each from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Chapey Funeral Home, located at 200 East Main Street in East Islip.
A funeral mass is planned for 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, located at 20 Harrison Ave., which is Main Street, also in East Islip, with a burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, in Farmingdale.
