A relay team from Bayport-Blue Point High School’s girls winter track program has recorded the fastest 4×800 relay time in the country so far this season, the school district reported.
During a meet at Yale University this month, the relay team of Ansley and Ava Brogan, Sophia McInnes, and Maddie Jensen set a new meet record, qualified for nationals and shattered the former Bayport-Blue Point High School record set in 2002 by 16 seconds.
In addition to holding this season’s number one time in the nation, the relay unit’s time (9:18.99) qualifies as the seventh fastest 4×800 time in Suffolk County history.
Earlier this month, Ansley and Ava Brogan, Sophia McInnes and Maggie Yost ran a 4×400 relay at four minutes and two seconds, a New York state leading time, at the Armory Hispanic Games. The time broke the former Bayport-Blue Point High School record of four minutes and five seconds and qualified the students for nationals.
A few days later, the same group was back at the Armory, where they ran the race again in the same time, qualifying them for the prestigious Millrose Games in February. It marks just the third time in school history that the Phantoms have qualified for the prestigious event.
Additionally, at the Stanner Games on Sunday, Sophia McInnes won the 600-meter race with a personal best time of 1:33.65, the fastest time in the U.S. so far this season. Two days earlier, at the Steve Borbet Invitational, BBP’s Leonni Griffin won the 600-meter race, also with a time of 1:33.65, but just two-thousandths of a second slower than McInnes’ time on Sunday.
What a weekend for the Girls’ 600m!

Both PR’s.
