Long Island sea turtles

Fresh on the heels of news this week that four rescued and rehabbed sea turtles will be released at Tiana Beach in Hampton Bays tonight, Greater Long Island has just gotten word that four others are set for release.

The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society will be releasing back to the wild four previously cold-stunned Kemp’s ridley sea turtles that were initially recovered by the Mass Audubon Society in Massachusetts in December.

And the group has scheduled three release dates, with the details outlined below:

The release schedule

  • The first released turtle will hit the water Thursday, July 25, 6 p.m. at Town Beach in Point Lookout.
  • The group’s second release happens Tuesday, July 30, at 6 p.m. at Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays, where two turtles will be sent back to the wild.
  • The last turtle is scheduled for release Wednesday, July 31, at 6 p.m. at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center at 1150 Bay Parkway in Wantagh.
