Grab your tickets: Argyle Theatre announces 2020-21 lineup

Babylon Village’s Argyle Theatre recently announced the lineup up for its third season of shows.

The playhouse, which opened May 2018, will be running six mainstage productions (listed below) in the 2020-21 calendar year.

“Mamma Mia!”

The season kicks off with the romantic comedy film-turned-musical, “Mamma Mia!”

This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.

“Footloose the Musical”

The second show of the season is “Footloose the Musical,” another musical based on an iconic movie.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top Forty score, augmented with dynamic new songs, “Footloose” celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.

“Punk Rock Girl”

The third play is a first-of-its-kind for the Argyle Theatre. For the first time ever, the Babylon playhouse will be hosting a world premiere when “Punk Rock Girl” debuts on Sept. 10.

“We’re really excited about this,” said Argyle Theatre co-owner Dylan Perlman. “It’s a musical that uses music from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s punk bands.”

The play is written by Tony-nominated Long Island composer Joe Iconis, who’s best known for writing music for the Broadway play “Be More Chill.”

“Elf the Musical”

For the holidays, the Argyle Theatre is bringing in “Elf the Musical,” a work based on the popular Will Ferrell film.

“It’s going to be fun and colorful,” said Perlman. “A great play for that time of year.”

“Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story”

“Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story” hits the stage at the Argyle Theatre Jan. 21 to Feb. 28.

The Buddy Holly Story” tells the story of the three years in which he became the world’s top recording artist with a show that features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits including ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘That’ll Be The Day’, ‘Oh Boy’, ‘Everyday’, ‘Not Fade Away’, ‘Rave On’ and ‘Raining In My Heart’.

“42nd Street”

The Argyle Theatre wraps up its third season with “42nd Street.”

42nd Street” celebrates Broadway, Times Square and the magic of show biz with wit, humor and pizzazz. At the height of the Great Depression, aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown PA, and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle. Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star?
