Four CT men rescued after boat overturns in middle of Long Island Sound

|

Four Connecticut men were rescued just past midnight Sunday morning after their boat overturned in the Long Island Sound, leaving them clinging to the hull for nearly an hour, Suffolk County Police said.

Officers Jack Hardy and John Falcone, operating Marine Delta from the department’s Marine Bureau, responded to a 911 call at 12:07 a.m. reporting a capsized vessel near Stratford Shoal — a shallow area in the middle of the Sound between Mount Sinai and Connecticut.

When officers arrived, they found a 20-foot center console power boat overturned and sinking. None of the four men were wearing life jackets, police said.

The officers pulled all four safely aboard the Marine Delta and took them back to their point of origin in Stratford, Connecticut. From there, the men were taken to a local hospital for treatment due to exposure.

Police did not release the identities of the individuals rescued.
