The Stray Cats are back on the road this fall — and they’re making a stop right here on Long Island.
The legendary rockabilly trio, all Long Island natives and inductees into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame, announced a month-long tour that includes a performance at the Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair on Nov. 5.
“What blows me away every time is how this music still connects — decades later,” said lead singer and Massapequa native Brian Setzer on the group’s website. “It’s just as raw, just as real. We see fans from every generation now.”
The Stray Cats were formed in Massapequa back in 1979 by Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom, and Lee Rocker. The group went on to land six top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including the iconic “Rock This Town,” which is featured on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of 500 songs that shaped rock and roll.
“There’s nothing like the sound we make when the three of us hit the stage,” said bassist Lee Rocker. “It’s high-octane rockabilly, loud and proud.”
Drummer Slim Jim Phantom added: “HOLY MACKEREL. One thing I can guarantee 100%… We will rock your town!!”
The tour news comes less than six months after Setzer revealed he had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that affected his hands and kept him from playing guitar. No new update on his condition was included in Monday’s announcement.
The 21-city tour kicks off Oct. 25 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday at 10 a.m., with an exclusive fan club presale beginning tomorrow at 10 a.m.
