Police arrested a Sayville teenager Saturday evening for allegedly stabbing a 17-year-old during an altercation at Smith Point Beach in Shirley, authorities said.
Suffolk County Police said Alexander Murphy, 18, stabbed a Selden teenager in the back with a knife during a fight on the outer beach at 6:07 p.m.
The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Murphy was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, police said. He was charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Police said he will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip once he is released from the hospital.
Earlier Saturday, Smith Point County Beach hosted the Long Island Oyster Jamboree, which ran from 1 to 6 p.m. There was no indication from police that the stabbing was related to the event.
