Barrier Brewing breaks through to Long Beach with new taproom

|

Craft beer fans have a reason to raise their glasses. Barrier Brewing Co. is opening a second taproom in Long Beach on Monday, Aug. 25.

The popular Oceanside-based brewery has long drawn fans from across Long Island.

Owner Evan Klein said the new spot will save L.B. locals a trip over the bridge.

“We know a lot of people that live here that love our beer but they don’t want to cross the bridge to get to Oceanside,” he joked. “So now it’s more convenient.”

The Long Beach location will feature IPAs, stouts and seasonal flavors. Klein said the added space will allow Barrier to experiment with new recipes while reviving old favorites.

“We can now once again start doing batch sizes, which means we can brew different styles that we haven’t been able to make in a while,” he said. “We have hundreds and hundreds of different styles, and I think it’s very cool that we get to bring some of those back.”

Klein added the brewery aims to roll out between four and eight new varieties each month, alongside its core lineup, including the insanely popular Money IPA.

Barrier has been brewing since 2009. Its “Shadows and Dust” New England-style IPA was voted best brew in New York in 2019. While some of its beer is shipped nationwide, Klein said the focus remains on Long Island.

“We love being a part of this community,” sales manager Gabby Carlo said. “To be able to come here and focus on this city, with community-driven events while enjoying our local beer — it’s giving me goosebumps just thinking about it.”

Barrier Brewing in Long Beach will be open seven days a week at 135 E. Park Ave., a short walk from the train station and the boardwalk.
