The homegrown Granola Bar chain opens Massapequa Park spot

|

Massapequa Park is about to get a little tastier.

The Granola Bar officially opens its doors Wednesday, Oct. 1, as the newest spot on the South Shore for breakfast and lunch.

It’s the ninth location for the rapidly-growing chain, and the second on Long Island, after Woodbury.

“I feel like I would’ve loved this place when I was growing up,” the chain’s co-owner, Julie Mountain, who was born and raised in Massapequa, told Greater Long Island. “I’m so happy we are now a part of this community.”

And it appears the community feels the same way about its newest restaurant.

“We’ve gotten more positive feedback about this opening since we announced it on social media, than any of our other locations,” said fellow co-owner Dana Noorily.  “And that includes two new spots in Manhattan that haven’t opened yet.”

The beloved all-day café is known for having a trendy and diverse menu and Instagram-worthy lattes.

Mountain calls The Granola Bar “the modernization of the diners that I grew up with.”

“Our customers tell us our menu has been living in their minds their whole life, and they love the fact we know exactly what they want,” she added.  “We were tired of the singular-focused places.”

The Granola Bar was born in 2013 when Mountain and Noorily had a simple idea: make healthier food that people actually want, and create a space where the community wants to go.

If you are craving a sweet breakfast, challah french toast, maple banana oatmeal and sweet potato pancakes are among the options.

If you prefer savory, there’s a pesto and egg bowl, huevos rancheros, or the protein packed Heisenberg — which is eggs, sausage, bacon, cheddar cheese and hot sauce in a whole wheat wrap.

Lunch choices include a bacon onion jam burger, a blackened salmon wrap and The Rachel-grilled turkey, swiss, coleslaw and TGB sauce on sourdough.

There’s also parfaits, which can be made with non-dairy yogurt for those who want vegan options.

“Julie and I are foodies at heart, we grew up at our grandmother’s kitchen tables,” said Noorily.  “You know what every single ingredient on our menu is.  It was very natural to us to create a menu coming from consumers.”

The Granola Bar is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m on weekends.  You can find it at 4902 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park in the Southgate Shopping Center.
