Nassau County claims the top four spots on GOBankingRates’ 2025 ranking of the 20 safest and richest suburbs in the New York metro area. The rankings evaluate communities based on crime rates, average household income, and livability scores.
Rockville Centre ranks No. 1 as the “Safest and Richest Suburb” in metropolitan New York, with an average household income of $202,529, an annual cost of living of $101,463, low crime rates, and a livability score of 78.
Lynbrook, Long Beach and Garden City follow, all noted for their low crime, strong schools, and convenient access to New York City. Garden City stands out with a livability score of 84 and an average household income just a few bucks under $293,000.
Nine of the of the top 20 suburbs are in Nassau; the other 11 communities are in Westchester County.
The GOBankingRates rankings draw on data from the U.S. Census, FBI crime statistics, Zillow, and AreaVibes livability scores, highlighting communities where safety, wealth, and quality of life intersect.
