Speed contest stunt lands Rocky Point man in muddy water

|

Nearly three weeks after a tire-smoking stunt in a Centereach parking lot, police on Tuesday caught up with a Rocky Point man connected to the illegal speed contest, authorities said.

Suffolk police said officers from the Street Takeover Task Force spotted a 2019 Dodge Challenger driving recklessly at 2112 Middle Country Road on Nov. 29, spinning tires and producing smoke before fleeing the scene.

Sixth Precinct detectives identified the driver as 20-year-old Kelvin Torresurquilla, who turned himself in Tuesday. He faces a charge of unlawful speed contest and was released on a field appearance ticket.

Torresurquilla is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip at a later date. The Dodge Challenger involved in the incident was seized as part of the investigation.
