GLI News Briefs |
As Long Island continues digging out from an historic blizzard, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced increased Long Island Rail Road service for Tuesday afternoon and a return to regular weekday service early Wednesday.
For Tuesday’s afternoon peak, half-hourly service has been restored on the Ronkonkoma Branch, and shuttle trains will continue operating between Jamaica and Grand Central Madison, the MTA has announced.
The LIRR is also adding two Babylon Branch trains and one Port Washington Branch train for the afternoon rush.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, the LIRR will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Riders should expect some modifications due to lingering storm impacts, but trains will provide service to all three New York City terminals, the announcement reads.
Crews continue working around the clock to clear large snow drifts from roughly 700 miles of track and multiple train yards. Personnel remain deployed across the region spreading salt, clearing snow and keeping signals, switches and third rails operating.
Riders can find real-time updates and service alerts at mta.info, through the MTA or TrainTime mobile apps, or by calling 511.
