Fire crews from North Bellmore and Bellmore fire departments worked alongside the Nassau County Hazardous Materials Team to secure a leaking propane tank Tuesday on Charles Court in North Bellmore.
The leak caused several businesses to temporarily shut down on the dead-end street.
Authorities deployed a propane burn-off kit — a controlled method used to safely vent and ignite escaping gas — in an effort to empty the tank and eliminate the hazard.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained on scene as the tank was gradually depressurized and rendered safe. Hazmat technicians monitored conditions throughout the operation.
Photos from a local photographer show crews in protective gear managing the controlled burn as a visible flame rose from the apparatus, a standard safety measure designed to prevent a more dangerous buildup of gas.

It was not immediately clear what caused the leak.
