Long Island’s first Bonchon is set to open this week.
The popular Korean fried chicken chain is launching at the Centereach Mall, located at 141 Centereach Mall, Unit 13, in the former home of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.
Bonchon’s first Suffolk County location is scheduled to open on Wednesday, March 26. The GLI team got an exclusive first look inside — keep scrolling for photos and video.
Founded by Jinduk Seo in 2002 in Busan, South Korea, Bonchon expanded to the U.S. in 2006 with its first location in Fort Lee, N.J. Since then, the brand has grown rapidly, now boasting more than 455 locations worldwide. The chain recently celebrated the opening of its 150th U.S. store in Arkansas.
Another Long Island location is also in the works at the New York Samanea Mall in Westbury, with an expected opening this summer, according to a Newsday report.
Bonchon, which translates to “Crunch Out Loud,” is famous for its hand-battered, double-fried chicken, praised for its signature crispiness. Critics have hailed it as the “best, most affordable fried chicken in the world.”
The menu offers a variety of fried chicken options, including drumsticks, strips, and boneless pieces, alongside an assortment of Asian-inspired dishes. Appetizers include bao buns, Korean tacos, and shrimp shumai, while traditional Korean dishes like Japchae — a stir-fried mix of glass noodles, red pepper, carrots, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and bulgogi in soy garlic sauce —are also available.
