Manorville was sizzling this past weekend.
The Manorville Fire Department held its third annual BBQ Rib Cook Off on Saturday, drawing big crowds and 16 teams all vying for the title of best smoked ribs.

“Today we are cooking up some peach cobbler ribs,” said Ed Sweeting, the leader of a team called News Bytes. “I wanted to try something new. The apple-pie infused rib guy keeps winning this so I had to try something different. It’s a little peach combined with a little heat. Everybody seemed to be loving them.”
Sweeting, who owns Big Ed’s Sweet Smoke BBQ catering, ended up finishing fourth. The top prize went to Mountain Men BBQ — last year’s third-place team — who made Maple Peach Ribs with a peach chutney topping.
Other creative flavors at the cook-off included pineapple habanero, pineapple margarita, and forest berry ribs.
There was also a fan-favorite competition, where attendees could eat their fill and vote for the best-tasting ribs.
“The turnout was awesome,” firefighter and event organizer Andrew Preli told Greater Long Island. “The first year we had about 300 people, last year we had 600 people, and this year ticket sales were even better, around 800 people.”
If you missed out, don’t worry — the next one is already on the calendar. The fourth annual BBQ Rib Cook Off is set for July 18, 2026.
