Plans are in motion to resolve the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Library Public Library’s weeks-long HVAC malfunction.

“We are continuing to try and resolve the situation as soon as possible,” said the library’s director, Michael Squillante.

According to library administrators, they recently received a permit from the DEC to replace the well that operates the building’s geothermal HVAC system.

“We expect that drilling operations will commence next week and continue until the job is complete,” reads a notice from the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library issued Aug. 1.

The problems began on July 2, when library staffers discovered the air conditioning system had failed. It was then learned there was a problem with the supply well.

After trying to rehabilitate the 52-year-old well, on Friday, July 6, it was decided to replace the entire well.

During construction, it is possible that the library may need to close down if temperatures become unsafe, says Squillante. For further information, contact Director Michael Squillante at 631-665-4350 or at director@bsbwlibrary.org
