After 32 years, Camera Concepts is leaving Patchogue Village for Stony Brook

|

A business that’s served the Patchogue community for 32 years is heading north.

Camera Concepts & Telescope Solutions announced it will be moving to Stony Brook on Sept. 1.

“We tried to stay in Patchogue,” said owner Jeff Norwood, “Places are filled up.” Norwood said it’s a “wonderful” thing that the village is growing, and that it’s not easy to leave.

“Customers for over 30 years tell me how much they’ll miss me,” he said. “These are customers I’ve known and grown old with.”

But, he said, representatives for a larger location in the heart of Stony Brook sought him out and sent him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Norwood’s new shop at 85 Main Street will feature a spacious showroom and stock area, something he didn’t have at his store on 10 South Ocean Avenue.

As a way to give back to Patchogue, Norwood and his team hosted a free eclipse showing on Monday, Aug. 21. Passing patrons were able to view the sun with special telescopes and binoculars.

Camera Concepts will officially close in Patchogue on Aug. 30, says Norwood, who lives in Miller Place.

As a way to celebrate his move, Camera Concepts will host a grand opening on Oct. 7 , which will feature prizes and refreshments in Stony Brook.
