Aldi grocery taking shape in Rocky Point’s Crossroads Plaza

|

There’s no word yet on an official opening date for the new Aldi in Rocky Point, but the store is beginning to shape in the Crossroads Plaza East shopping center.

Judging from appearances this weekend, the exterior design is nearly complete. And inside, cooler window doors are in place and posters have been hung indicating where to go for cold treats and frozen seafood.

Furthermore, the entire facade of the plaza — located at 85 North Country Road (Route 25A) — has received a facelift, with a fresh paint job and new bright signs for each store, bringing the entire plaza in line with the Aldi brand.

Aldi, a German-owned discount supermarket, fills in the vacant spot Modell’s Sporting Goods left behind in 2020 when the New York metro area chain went out of business. Also, Mattress Firm moved to another unit in the plaza to accommodate Aldi.

The Aldi space totals about 22,000 square feet, according to plans submitted and approved by Brookhaven Town. The retailer indicates on its website that an Aldi location is coming soon to Rocky Point.

Aldi operates a dozen other supermarkets across Long Island.

Aldi is located in the following locations:

  • Bay Shore
  • Bohemia
  • Carle Place
  • Hempstead
  • Lake Grove
  • Lindenhurst
  • North Babylon
  • Patchogue
  • Riverhead
  • Selden
  • Shirley
  • Valley Stream
