Islip Town’s parking meters in downtown Bay Shore will not be in effect Sunday, the day of the annual Arts by the Bay Festival, according to the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bay Shore.
Chamber president Donna Periconi alerted businesses owners via email Monday that downtown parking enforcement would be suspended Sunday, as per Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
Typically, feeding the meters is required for much of Main Street, as well as some side roads and back parking lots from 1 p.m. to midnight on Sundays.
Whether the downtown meters would be suspended for Arts Fest was a concern raised by Periconi during last Tuesday’s chamber meeting at Bay Shore-Brighwaters Public Library.
The one-day street festival kicks off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 11, and runs to 6 p.m. in Bay Shore. Main Street, from Smith Avenue to Shore Lane, will be closed to traffic.
