American Standard to host NYE bash before closing in Bay Shore; here’s what’s coming next

|

It’s closing time for a Bay Shore bar-and-grill that opened not even a year and a half ago.

American Standard Whiskey Bar & Grill is shutting after a New Year’s Eve “Drink the Bar Dry” blowout, its owners announced on Instagram.

“We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support, most of all our devoted staff who have shown an incredible amount of loyalty and dedication to us and their work,” the post read. “We wish much success to the new owners and look forward to their positive impacts on downtown Bay Shore.”

The $50-a-head last hurrah on New Year’s Eve caps a short stay on Main Street for the owners of a place focused on Southern-inspired comfort food and featured more than 250 high-end bourbons and whiskeys, plus live music.

American Standard opened in the spring of 2023 inside the former Corks and Taps space on West Main Street as part of a collaborative effort between Bay Shore-based Costa Verde Hospitality and brothers Jake and Ricky Guadagno.

Co-owner Anthony Tartaglia — whose Costa Verde Hospitality group also owns Verde Kitchen & Cocktails and Coastal Kitchen + Daiquiri Bar on Bay Shore’s East Main Street — told Newsday that American Standard had not been on market.

But when an unexpected bid from a buyer materialized, “it made sense for us to take the offer on the table,” Tartaglia told Newsday, adding that Costa Verde will now focus on growing its other properties, which include cocktail bar Sweet Jane, also on East Main Street.

Newsday reported that The Dark Horse Tavern, which currently has locations in Farmingdale, Massapequa Park and Rockville Centre, will be bringing its pub fare and cocktails to Bay Shore in place of American Standard. Dark Horse’s ownership recently eyed Babylon Village for expansion, but those plans didn’t pan out.

Starting on Jan. 1, unused gift cards from American Standard Whiskey Bar & Grill will be redeemable at Coastal Kitchen + Daiquiri Bar, the restaurant’s owners said in the Instagram post.

In the thank you note, the owners also served up some parting barroom advice.

“Please tip your bartender.”
