An Amityville woman faces animal cruelty charges after animal police removed a badly neglected 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix from her home, Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.
SPCA detectives arrested Carolyn Robinson, 59, when they discovered her dog Richard covered in fleas with severely matted and missing fur, and an open untreated wound, Gross said. Robinson is charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Richard was immediately removed from Robinson’s home on Wednesday and received treatment and care from a veterinarian.
Richard has already been adopted “into a loving family, where he is receiving the care and attention he needs,” Gross said.
Robinson is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on Nov. 12.
