Amsterdam launching Super Terrific Happy Hour in Patchogue Village

|

There are happy hours, and then there’s what Scottie Campbell is calling Super Terrific Happy Hour.

Starting this Friday, Jan. 16, the new Amsterdam in Patchogue is launching a weekly Friday tradition that’s equal parts all-out party and unbeatable deal.

Everything is 50 percent off — no fine print. We’re talking mixed drinks, beer, wine, cocktails and all the food on the menu.

“I wanted to bring happy hour back to happy hour,” said Campbell, a co-owner at Amsterdam, which rebranded and relaunched in the fall from That Meetball Place. “So many places make it confusing … half off only certain drinks, limited menus, or specials that nobody remembers.

“I wanted a place where you already know the deal before you walk in: everything is half price.”

And he’s not just talking about cheaper drinks.

Campbell, who Long Islanders may remember from his Planet Dublin days, is reviving what made his past spots famous: energy, music, and an atmosphere that feels like a celebration from the moment you step inside.

“There hasn’t been a real happy hour that feels special anymore,” he said. “I’m not trying to make this a sit-down thing. I want it to be fun. I want people to come in, grab a drink, hear great music, blow off some steam and actually feel like they’re at happy hour again.”

Built-in party

Every Super Terrific Happy Hour kicks off with DJ Salty Jim — a familiar name to anyone who’s spent time at Dublin Deck, also in Patchogue — spinning open-format, party-style music from 4 to 7 p.m.

“He’s like the house happy hour DJ,” Campbell said. “Fun music, good vibes, just setting the tone.”

And when happy hour ends, the night keeps rolling with live music.

This Friday, for instance, Jet City takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Campbell says the idea behind Super Terrific Happy Hour is simplicity.

“No guessing. No wondering what’s included,” he said. “You know everything on the menu is half off. That’s it.”

The goal, he says, is to make Amsterdam the place people automatically think of when it’s time for happy hour. And revive some old traditions along the way.

“We’re bringing happy hour back to being happy,” he said.
