Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered Wednesday in a wooded area in Manorville, police said.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the death to be criminal in nature.
Officers with Suffolk Police’s Seventh Precinct during a search of the area found the remains near Connecticut Avenue, south of River Road, about 3:21 p.m.
The location is just a few hundred yards from the former Grumman property in Calverton and near train tracks that cut through the area.
The woman’s identity has not yet been released. Officials said the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
