New York State Police nabbed an Arizona man on weapon charges after troopers stopped his pickup truck on the Long Island Expressway in Old Westbury and discovered a loaded handgun and a knife beneath the driver’s seat, police said.

Orlando Silva Rodriguez, 42, of Phoenix was pulled over at about 3:12 p.m. on the expressway by members of the New York State Police Community Stabilization Unit and narcotic K9 Kane for multiple traffic infractions, police said.

During the stop, troopers recovered a Springfield XDM 9mm pistol loaded with a 19-round magazine, along with a knife classified as a dangerous weapon. Both weapons were found under the driver’s seat, authorities said.

Rodriguez was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon with a large-capacity ammunition feeding device, criminal possession of a firearm, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon — dangerous knife.

He was pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Saturday at Nassau County District Court in Hempstead.
