Babylon ‘strong’ raising $50,000 to support 4-year-old boy battling cancer

|

The Babylon community and beyond is doing everything it can to make the holidays a little brighter for a 4-year-old boy recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Multiple fundraising efforts are underway for Troy “TJ” Selletti and his family. The Ninja Turtle-loving preschooler is a white-red belt in Taekwondo who lives in Babylon Village with parents, Jay and Christine, and his big sister Zoey.

“The Selletti family will be putting their lives on hold in order to get the best care for TJ, which includes Jay and Christine taking time off work to care for TJ,” reads the message on the GoFundMe page. “We are asking for donations to help them with their medical and day-to day expenses, since the family’s lives have been thrown upside down by this unexpected illness.”

So far, the GoFundMe page has seen nearly $30,000 in donations pour in. The page aims to raise $50,000 for TJ, who is battling B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

“Let’s support one of our local families during this incredibly difficult time,” the GoFundMe page says. “Please help us show your love and support for TJ by donating what you can!”

A preschool classmate’s family posted a heartfelt note on the GoFundMe page for TJ: “Shea misses Troy at school and has constantly talked about him at home for almost 3 years! Stay strong, thinking about your family and sending lots of love!”

On Giving Tuesday last month, the Babylon Village Strong Facebook group posted a fundraising sale on behalf of TJ. The group is selling short sleeve and long sleeve shirts that say “TJ’s Troops = Babylon Strong.”
